Free Throw – “Grandma Got Runover By A Reindeer”

Nashville indie rockers Free Throw have succeeded in melting the heart of the grumpiest of Christmas grumps. They went right for the feels with this one. “Grandma Got Runover By A Reindeer” has always been my favorite Christmas song about Santa pulling a hit-and-run. If you wish, you can check out the boys original tunes at their Bandcamp. Enjoy.

ButterQueen – “I Like To Stay Home” (R. Stevie Moore Cover)

Orlando trio ButterQueen take on lo-fi legend RSM for r/cassetteculture’s latest compilation tape, Rituals. In July, ButterQueen was named “Best New Band to Rep Orlando Hard” by Orlando Weekly, a fitting title given the band’s admiration for Orlando underground landmarks in songs like “Dinner at Wally’s”. This is a band that sticks to their roots. Whether it’s singing about their hometown or paying homage to a musical hero, ButterQueen is dedicated to keeping the gristle of the underground alive and kickin’. Enjoy.

Frameworks – “Fell In Love With A Girl” (The White Stripes Cover)

This cover from the Gainesville-based, post-hardcore band Frameworks has beaten the original to an unrecognizable pulp. Jack White’s lyrics have been thrown in a blender and shredded to pieces, and his guitar solo has been glitched-the-fuck-out. As if their mission hadn’t already been executed, the band brings the song back in for one last cheap shot to jaw. Enjoy.

You Blew It! to release Weezer cover EP, “You Blue It” on 7/15

Still riding the wave of popularity behind their sophomore album, Orlando natives You Blew It! are set to release an EP of choice Weezer cuts from the band’s 1994 album, Weezer (The Blue Album). Two songs, “My Name is Jonas” and “Surf Wax America,” have already helped build anticipation for the EP. You can pre-order You Blue It over at Topshelf Records. Good job boys. Brilliant pun. Enjoy.
