Flashlights played one of the first shows I went to after moving to Orlando. Since then, the band has done incredible things for themselves. They’ve earned infinitely more fans; their music has continually progressed, and they’ve toured the country. Their latest video is for “Islands,” a horribly conflicted song where emotions of the past crash in a dramatic car accident. The video plays off these emotions. We see an old slide projector. Memories flicker through the lens and into our brains. Our reflections of these events lead to fond nostalgia and cold regret. Sometimes about the same recollection. The video’s film-like warmth adds a personal attachment – it may have actually been shot on with film. The haunting piano that closes the song/video is painful reminder that the past is just that. Enjoy.
Longtime Central Florida favorites, Flashlights have released a video for “Blue Dream,” a slacker-tinged cut from their new album, Bummer Summer. Enjoy.
Ladies and gentlemen, they won’t be stopped. The Welzeins plot to take over the universe is going all according to plan. First, the Orlando band announced their self-titled, debut album and released “Shit & Sugar.” Now, The Welzeins are dishing out “Cigarette Girls,” a raunchy, riff-laden barn-burner. Singer/guitarist RJ Nordstrom growls, “I’m addicted to you!” The feeling is mutual. Enjoy.
IMPORTANT: These boys are holding a album release show this Saturday at Backbooth. Buy your tickets now!
It’s 12:30. ButterQueen are performing at Will’s Pub. They’re playing The Clash, but not literally. I say they’re playing The Clash, because in this humble man’s opinion, tonight ButterQueen are the only band that matters. Enjoy.
Orlando’s Frankenstein’s Monster is sleazier than ever
So I saw ButterQueen last night. As always, they were a thrill to see. The connection between the members Jordan, Susana, and Phil feels incredibly organic. They speak to each other like old chums, cracking jokes and taking shots. This authenticity is what ButterQueen is all about; three friends making music about the town they love, for the town they love. Make yourself comfortable. You’re at home with ButterQueen.
The band recently did a radio session with WMNF. It’s awesome!!
Still riding the wave of popularity behind their sophomore album, Orlando natives You Blew It! are set to release an EP of choice Weezer cuts from the band’s 1994 album, Weezer (The Blue Album). Two songs, “My Name is Jonas” and “Surf Wax America,” have already helped build anticipation for the EP. You can pre-order You Blue It over at Topshelf Records. Good job boys. Brilliant pun. Enjoy.
Ghandi. Mother Teresa. DoGs. All legendary. All generous. Enjoy.
In a Florida-based band? Send me your stuff! Hope you don’t suck!
I guess I’m just a DoG person.
Amongst all the Bonnaroo madness last month, Orlando’s musical underbelly kept growing. That’s because punk trio DoGs played summer Santa by releasing a compilation containing every song they’ve recorded thus far. Copious amounts of PBR didn’t hurt either.
The name-your-price option has been a popular release option for DIY bands like DoGs. If you’re feeling generous, you can support the band by throwing a few bucks their way (I gave $1 million). If you’re strapped for cash, you can always go for my favorite price, $free.99.
Welcome to the best place to find hot Orlando-area singles. Today we have two young bachelors who call themselves: The Welzeins. These charming men won’t use roses and chocolate to sweep you off your feet; they prefer shit, sugar, and raw beef. Enjoy.
The Welzeins are a greasy two-piece who specialize in fuzz-filled surf rock. “Shit and Sugar” is the first single from their debut album, which is scheduled to be released sometime this year. The song is essentially a bare-bones garage rock tune, filled to the brim with crunchy guitars and primal screams. Tomorrow, The Welzeins are playing their first show with new drummer Matt Wassum at some random dude’s house. It’s definitely going to be a good times, so come on out. Bring your dads!
